Crash in Douglas County leaves 1 dead, 3 hurt: police

UPDATE: The driver who was pronounced dead at the scene, has been identified as Michael Landsness, 37, of Lawrence.


KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a deadly, two-vehicle crash in Lawrence, Kansas on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the head-on crash occurred just before 1 p.m., east of the 31st Street and Louisiana Street intersection.

One person has died, police said, and three other people were transported to local hospitals — one by helicopter.

Investigators are examining the scene, and officers said that 31st Street between Louisiana Street, east of Haskell Avenue, will be closed for several hours.

Drivers in the area should plan to take an alternate route.
