Craig Lowndes wins 7th Bathurst 1000 at Mt Panorama

BATHURST, Australia (AP) — Craig Lowndes partnered with Steven Richards to win his seventh Bathurst 1000 race on Sunday at Mt. Panorama in Lowndes' final race as a fulltime driver.

Lowndes capitalized when race leader David Reynolds began cramping and had to retire from the 1,000-kilometer race, preventing the Erebus Motorsport team from defending the Peter Brock Trophy it won last year.

Lowndes overtook Reynolds for the lead with 27 laps remaining, cruising to victory ahead of the fellow Commodore pair of Scott Pye and Warren Luff.

The DJR Team Penske pair of Scott McLaughlin and Alex Premat was third.
