COVID-19 cases slow in region

Feb. 21—New reported cases of COVID-19 were down by almost half Sunday across the seven-county region of Northeast Pennsylvania.

Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties added a total of 122 new cases, down 83 from Saturday's total, according to data from the state Department of Health.

Statewide, 1,906 cases were reported for a total of 913,497, with 125,883 probable.

The region added another five deaths recorded Sunday, matching the prior day's new deaths. Sunday's report raised the regional total of deaths to 1,589. Statewide, 27 deaths were added, bringing the total to 23,597.

In the local counties:

Lackawanna added 32 cases for 13,595 total, including 2,007 probable. Four new deaths raised the county total to 410.

Luzerne added 44 cases for 24,505 total, including 1,776 probable. One new death raised the county total to 714.

Monroe added 27 cases for 9,417 total, including 239 probable. Deaths held at 261.

Pike added two cases for 2,436 total, including 202 probable. Deaths held at 46.

Susquehanna added one case for 1,667 total, including 181 probable. Deaths held at 53.

Wayne added 11 cases for 2,965 total, including 254 probable. Deaths held at 65.

Wyoming added five cases for 1,143 total, including 192 probable, and held at 40 deaths.
