Man accused of shooting parents was disappointed his mom survived, records say

A Chandler man suspected of shooting both his parents Monday morning told police he was disappointed to learn he had failed to kill his mother shortly after Mother's Day had passed, according to court documents.

Documents say officers responded to a residence near Chandler Heights and McQueen Road at around 5:42 a.m. after a woman called saying her 19-year-old son, Jeremiah Estel Blair, shot her and her husband.

Court documents say responding officers found Blair waiting for police on the driveway with a 9 mm handgun sitting on a nearby pickup truck.

Documents say Blair's father was going down the stairs when Blair confronted him and spoke about "this day coming" before raising the handgun and firing — striking him in the forearm. Blair's father retreated upstairs to the bedroom.

Documents say Blair's mother, hearing the commotion, went to check what was happening only to see Blair pointing the handgun at her from downstairs, where he shot her in the chest. Documents say Blair later told police he was upset with how his parents had raised him and planned to kill them for years. Blair added that he considered other ways of killing his parents but decided using a gun would be the most efficient.

Documents say Blair originally planned to kill his parents on Mother's Day but changed his mind. Blair knew he likely failed to kill his father but believed he killed his mother and was disappointed to learn she survived, documents say.

Documents added that Blair told police he knew his actions were wrong but carried them out all the same.

Blair was booked into jail on two counts of attempted first-degree murder and is being held on a $750,000 bond. His next scheduled court appearance is on May 20 in Maricopa County Superior Court.
