County to relocate two legal drains on jail property

May 24—ANDERSON — As a part of the planned $103 million construction of a new Madison County jail, the county is planning to resolve drainage issues at the site.

Madison County recently purchased property from Meijer on Broadway to the south of Hartman Road.

The Madison County Commissioners Wednesday approved two contracts with Spaceco to resolve drainage issues that have been a problem on Hartman Road to the west of the railroad tracks to County Road 300 West.

One contract in the amount of $20,000 was for survey work in the area. The second, for $40,000, was for the design of relocating two legal drains that run through the jail property.

County Administrator Tom Ecker said the legal drain in the area hasn't been working properly for many years.

"We're going to relocate the drains which will help the neighborhood," Ecker said.

The Madison County Drainage Board and the Anderson City Engineer's office have approved the concept of relocating the two drains.

"The two projects will result in significant improvements," Ecker said.

One drain will be located along the railroad track, which will allow improved flow of stormwater from the Hartman Road area in the future, officials said.
