County races setting up as filings get underway
Apr. 4—Three races were already setting up as the first day of candidate filing got underway at the new Pittsburg County Election Board office.
Two candidates each had filed for the Pittsburg County sheriff's office.
Another two candidates filed for the court clerk's office, while two more candidates filed for the county assessor's post.
As of near 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, one candidate each had filed for the Pittsburg County clerk's office and for the District 2 county commissioner's post.
Randy Hass is challenging Chris Morris for the Pittsburg County Sheriff's office. Both Morris and Hass filed as Republican candidates.
Pam Smith has a challenger for the Pittsburg County court clerk's seat. Both Smith and Tracy Brock filled as Republican candidates for the post.
Cathey Ridenour, who is serving as interim Pittsburg County assessor, and Richard Howry, both filed as Democrat candidates for the unexpired term in the assessor's office.
Pittsburg County Clerk Hope Trammell filed as a Republican candidate for reelection to post. She remained unopposed as of mid-day Wednesday.
Also, Mike Haynes filed as a Republican candidate for the District 2 Pittsburg County commissioner's seat, left vacant when Kevin Smith recently retired from the office.
The three day filing period began at 8 a.m. Wednesday. It extends through Thursday and Friday, April 4-5, at the Pittsburg County Election Board Office at 7 E. Chickasaw Ave., between S. Main Street and S. Second Street.
