Coroner: Upstate 10-year-old died with fentanyl in her system

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – One person has been arrested after it was discovered a 10-year-old girl who died in January had fentanyl in her system when she passed away.

According to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office, on January 12, 10-year-old Ivy Rayne Stowe was found in cardiac arrest and taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An autopsy of Stowe’s body reveled her death to be the result of a combination of effects from Fentanyl and Xylazine, a non-opioid sedative not approved for use in people.

According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, Stowe’s uncle, Zachary Taylor Mcclure was arrested on Thursday and charged with homicide by child abuse.

According to the sheriff’s office, Stowe was living with Mcclure at the time of her death, and Mcclure had allegedly been using Fentanyl in the home while Stowe was there.

Investigators said they believe the availability of the drug contributed to her death.

Mcclure is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center on no bond.
