Coroner rules on death of 40-year-old man struck by train in Erie Thursday afternoon

The Erie County Coroner's Office has ruled the death of a man who died after he was hit by a train on Thursday as a suicide.

The 40-year-old man, whom authorities said was homeless, died on Thursday at 10:13 p.m. at UPMC Hamot following the accident, which was reported at about 2:40 p.m. in the area of East 15th and Wayne streets.

The man was on the railroad tracks when he was struck by a westbound freight train, authorities reported.
