UPDATE: Two people have died from Route 30 crash in York County
WEST MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WHTM) — Two people have now died after a crash involving 13 vehicles on Route 30 in West Manchester Township, according to the York County Coroner’s office.
The chain-reaction crash happened around 8:30 a.m. on April 16 involving multiple vehicles, including a school van and a large truck. All of the passengers on the school van were reported to be safe.
A box truck reportedly crashed into multiple vehicles at an intersection before hitting a 2008 black Toyota Yaris head-on that the man was a passenger in, according to a report from the coroner’s office.
According to the York County Coroner, the two deceased individuals from the crash are Barry C. Hirneisen, 77, who was pronounced dead on the scene, and James Lawyer, 52, who was receiving ongoing treatment for nine days before succumbing to his injuries.
Route 30 was closed for hours between Loucks Road and the Carlisle Avenue exit.
First responders at the scene are saying they can’t recall responding to a crash this serious. It’s unclear at this time how the crash started as police investigate.
