Huntsville Police: 4-year-old child killed in shooting that appears accidental

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A four-year-old has died from a gunshot wound on Sunday in Huntsville.

According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office (MCCO), the shooting happened at a home in Huntsville. The child was transported to Huntsville Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8 a.m.

A Huntsville Police Department spokesperson said Monday that the shooting appears to have been accidental, but the department is continuing to investigate. The spokesperson said that charges could still be filed in the case.

According to MCCO, an autopsy is scheduled for this week. The investigation remains ongoing at this time.
