Leanne Battersby has made an emotional confession as her cult story continues in Coronation Street.

Viewers have seen Leanne falling under the influence of the dangerous Institute and its leader Rowan, under the guise of getting self-help lessons.

In Monday's (April 15) visit to Weatherfield, Leanne tried to convince Ken Barlow to invest in Simon's business using the trust fund Deirdre Barlow had set up.

Ken turned her down, saying he'd be happy to provide funds for Simon to do a business studies course but couldn't support his food delivery idea.

Simon later admitted to Leanne he was disappointed that she couldn't come up with the money to back his business, then hinted he may want to join Peter on the high seas in the future.

"I may want to keep my options flexible," Simon told a concerned Leanne.

Leanne told him that all Peter needed was "the right guidance" or he wouldn't have left, leaving both Nick and Simon worried she was parroting The Institute's lingo.

Later, Leanne was on a video call with The Institute's Rowan, where she explained the real reason why she was hesitating to give Simon money for his business.

"I feel guilty," she told Rowan.

Leanne explained that she wanted to help Simon "solve all of his problems", but also resented him for not finding his footing after his recent legal trouble.

"I feel like [Simon's] not a kid, not anymore," Leanne said. "If he was, yeah, I'd help him find his feet, figure out who he wanted to be, try new things.

"I think I'd want to help him if he was [late son] Oliver."

Rowan took advantage of Leanne's vulnerability, suggesting she was in need of one of The Institute's "life assessments". Is she falling under the cult's control?

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
