Coronation Street star Will Mellor has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to return to Hollyoaks.
The star made a return to the ITV soap as Harvey Gaskell over the past few months, but didn’t afford Channel 4 the same opportunity with his role as James ‘Jambo’ Bolton, whom he last played in 2004.
Despite a two-decade gap since his last appearance, Mellor revealed that he had turned down an opportunity to reprise his role, though he didn’t rule out such a move in the future.

“The producers mentioned the idea of me returning a while back, but there wasn’t much reason for me to go back,” he told Daily Star. “I don’t like to go backwards, I like to go forward.
“[But] you never say never to anything. I am so grateful to Hollyoaks. I’ll always be in debt to that show. It was the show that changed my life. The part of Jambo helped me live the dream I’ve lived ever since.”
The star, who has also appeared on Strictly Come Dancing and Mr Bates vs The Post Office, also spoke about life as a soap star, saying the filming schedule can often be gruelling, saying: “Soaps have a bit of a bad reputation, but there are so many great actors who do them.

“The turnaround is unbelievable. You have to learn so much dialogue and sometimes you’re doing 14 scenes in a day compared to about four on a drama. To get the quantity and quality is tough. Soap actors deserve a lot of respect. It’s a tough gig.”
While we may not see him again as Jambo, Mellor’s final scenes as Harvey on Corrie can be seen shortly, with the star recently completing filming ahead of his exit.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
