Coronation Street's Bernie Winter gets a shock next week as she realises that newcomer Kit Green lied to her.

Bernie came face-to-face with her long-lost son in Monday's episode (May 13), but she was deceived when Kit denied being the man she was looking for.

Next week, Bernie remains in despair over her failed search as she tells her partner Dev Alahan that it's 31 years since she gave birth to her son, who was then called Zodiac.

Bernie sets off to support her other son Paul Foreman as he undergoes an operation to have his feeding tube fitted. Unfortunately, her day is disrupted when she finds her car being towed away.

Bernie spots Kit lurking nearby. Aware that he's a police detective, Bernie decides that he must be to blame for her misfortune.

Determined not to stand for this, Bernie heads to the police station to make a complaint against Kit for unfairly harassing her.

Suddenly, Craig Tinker and his colleagues surprise Kit with a cake to celebrate his 31st birthday. Bernie is stunned, realising that he must be her long-lost son after all.

Later in the week, Paul and his husband Billy face a difficult moment at the hospital when another driver blocks them from using a parking bay for disabled people.

Kit intervenes by flashing his police ID card and scaring off the other driver, who doesn't have a valid reason for using the space.

Paul and Billy tell Bernie that a policeman called Kit came to their rescue outside. Bernie is pleased, sensing that Kit does have a nicer side.

Bernie heads back to the police station and thanks Kit for being kind towards Paul.

She also asks Kit to finally give her a chance to explain her side of the story over why she gave him away. Will Kit be prepared to listen?

Former Hollyoaks star Jacob Roberts has been cast in the role of Kit. He previously played Damon Kinsella on the Channel 4 soap for six years.

Speaking about Kit, Jacob recently told us: "I do think he is going to be a very misunderstood character at first.

"He's been really hurt throughout his life and although he has a good heart, he has some deep-rooted resentment with his biological mum, which will be really interesting to play out."

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, May 20 and Wednesday, May 22.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
