Corona Township home destroyed in fire

Apr. 16—CORONA TOWNSHIP — A fire destroyed a rural Carlton County home Tuesday.

No injuries were reported, but a family cat may have died in the blaze, the Carlton County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

The sheriff's office received a report of a structure fire on the 4100 block of County Road 4, approximately 4 1/2 miles northwest of Mahtowa, just before 12:30 p.m. April 16.

A homeowner was using an outdoor wood stove near a shed when it caught fire. The fire quickly spread to the nearby home.

The home and its contents were lost. The American Red Cross was contacted to help the homeowner.

While the fire is not considered suspicious, it remains under investigation, the sheriff's office said.

The Mahtowa Fire Department was assisted by Barnum, Blackhoof, Carlton, Cromwell and Moose Lake volunteer fire departments, the Department of Natural Resources and Lake Country Power.
