A Cornelius cocktail bar is closing, and a new coffee, cannabis cafe is taking its place

Thigs Cocktail Bar, a Lake Norman hot spot for cocktail classes, wine Wednesdays and other events, is closing up Saturday, March 30 to usher in a new era with The Coffeeshop.

“Get ready to wake and bake in style,” the bar posted on its social media accounts. At The Coffeeshop, patrons will “indulge in the rich aroma of freshly brewed coffee, alongside the mellow vibes of cannabis consumption.”

Plans call for offering a selection of beer, wine and cocktails, too.

Thigs was inspired by co-owner Kas Matos’ trip to Amsterdam, where he came upon a bar called Thijs, which he mispronounced. (It’s pronounced Th-ice.)

“Join us over the next two weeks as we bid fairwell (sic) to our beloved community!,” its Instagram post said.

Its last live music show will be March 28 at 7:30 p.m., when Dani Keer will perform. The bar will close for its transformation after its last day, March 30.

Customers are sorry to see Thigs go but optimistic about what The Coffeeshop will offer to the community.

  • “I’m so sad. I love love love Thigs cocktail bar,” Renee Swope commented via Instagram.

  • “We were just in a huge fuss in this bar last weekend. So sad to see it go but excited to chill at this new place! Hope it keeps it’s lgbt friendly vibe,” Crystal Bright said on the post.

  • “Uhh the new concept sounds AMAZING! I’m coming to THAT asap!!,” Emily Schell posted.
