Cornel West Names Melina Abdullah As Running Mate In Presidential Campaign

Dr. Cornel West has revealed his running mate on his quest for the White House. Announced on Wednesday (April 10) during The Tavis Smiley Show, the 70-year-old named Dr. Melina Abdullah as his choice for Vice President in the 2024 presidential election.
“At this historic and pivotal moment, it is my profound honor to stand alongside my dear sister, Dr. Melina Abdullah, a fierce and tireless advocate for truth, justice, and transformative change,” shared Dr. West in a press statement.
“Sister Melina’s incredible courage, keen intellect, and deep vision have greatly served the cause of liberation in education, worker rights, and both racial and gender justice. Her unique Black analysis and witness helps us confront our crumbling era of empire, white supremacy, and patriarchy. I look forward to working with her as we strengthen our commitment in our campaign for truth, justice and love!”
Abdullah is a professor of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, a community organizer, a founding member of the Black Lives Matter movement, and the Director of Black Lives Matter Grassroots.
“I am deeply honored and humbled to join Dr. Cornel West as his Vice Presidential candidate at this critical moment as we work together for transformative change. This campaign offers a real vision for the world that stands in opposition to oppressive forces and holds fast to the universal principles of truth, justice, and love.,” detailed the 51-year-old academic professional.
“As we work arm-in-arm with justice-loving people everywhere, we reimagine and work to build a world that chooses goodwill over greed, courage over cowardice, and liberation over exploitation. Together, we are igniting a movement to not only dismantle harmful systems, but establish the firm foundations of a just, nurturing, and free world.”
According to CNN, like current Vice President Kamala Harris, Abdullah graduated from Howard University. While at the Washington D.C. HBCU, Abdullah earned a degree in African American Studies before she earned a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Southern California.
West announced his bid for the presidency in June 2023.
“In these bleak times, I have decided to run for truth and justice, which takes the form of running for president of the United States as a candidate for the People’s Party,” exclaimed the scholar. “I enter in the quest for truth. I enter in the quest for justice, and the presidency is just one vehicle to pursue that truth and justice, what I’ve been trying to do all of my life.”
