Corbin Splash Pad to open on time despite damage

Apr. 22—CORBIN — The Corbin Splash Pad is projected to open on schedule on Memorial Day weekend following concerns that winter damage would cause a delay.

Following severe cold and improper winterizing of the pipes which operate the splash pad, the attraction suffered damages that will require repair work.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Jacob Roan, the company American Leak Detection estimated that the repair work would cost $28,500.

Additionally, the company is also offering to provide training to current city employees on how to properly "winterize" the pipes so that the damage does not occur again.

During the winter, pipes such as the ones that operate the splash pad must be treated in order to prevent the water within them from freezing and ultimately bursting the pipes.

Though at one time there was thought to be significant damage, Roan reported in March's meeting that the damage was not as bad as they had initially suspected. Now, at April's meeting, Roan was happy to report that no delay will be caused by the repair work.
