Cool and a little calmer before Utah warms up

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Wednesday, Utah! We are halfway through the workweek. After a start to the week that has made it feel more like early March, we’ll finally start to see things calm down a little bit as we move into the second half of the workweek.

It won’t be completely calm, though, thanks to a low pressure to our northeast that will backtrack through our neighborhood through the rest of this week. Thankfully, we will begin to warm things back up.

Frigid start to Wednesday with a few isolated showers

As for today, we’ll see partly sunny skies across northern Utah with a chance of isolated showers. Wet weather will generally favor the high terrain and the northeastern portion of our area. Temperatures up north will also be a fraction warmer than yesterday with most seeing 40s and 50s compared to the 30s and 40s yesterday. In southern Utah, skies will be mostly sunny.

However, with a northerly flow, temperatures will run a little cooler than yesterday. It will also be breezy statewide as well.

For the second half of the workweek, the low pressure moving back through will keep a chance of showers in the forecast with a better chance spreading across the state. Overall, the wet weather potential won’t be too high, but it can’t be ruled out as showers continue to favor the high country.

Otherwise, we’ll see a mix of sun and clouds with temperatures that begin to warm back up. By Friday we should be close to seasonal norms. In northern Utah we’ll see 50s and 60s by Friday, with 60s and 70s down south as St. George returns to the low 80s.

Another product of the low pressure moving southwest through our area will be easterly winds in northern Utah from late tonight through early Friday. Gusty, down-sloping winds look probable during that timeframe with the strongest winds most likely coming during late Thursday through early Friday.

Along the northern Wasatch Front into Cache Valley, we could see some gusts over 50 miles per hour, especially in the area between Bountiful and Layton.

By the time we get into the Mother’s Day weekend, our chance of wet weather will run even lower as temperatures continue to warm. Temperatures will run above average both days over the weekend, with the Wasatch Front seeing mid to upper 70s while St. George gets close to 90 by Sunday.

For any outdoor plans for mom, things are looking good. Temperatures look to stay mild as we move into next week while skies stay mostly dry.
