Convicted sexual predator sentenced to up to 12 years in state prison

May 23—LEWISBURG — A West Milton man accused of raping a young girl will see 3 1/2 to 12 years in state prison following a sentencing hearing in Union County Court on Thursday.

Union County Judge Michael Piecuch determined that Jeffrey A. Kemmerer, 32, of West Milton, is a sexually violent predator. In addition to the prison sentence, Kemmerer was sentenced to three years of consecutive probation and he must register for life as a Megan's Law offender.

A jury of six men and six women found Kemmerer guilty of two counts of indecent assault following a two-day trial in November. Kemmerer was acquitted of two felony counts of aggravated indecent assault, but found guilty of two counts of indecent assault: one felony and one misdemeanor. The one count of indecent assault is a felony 3 because the jury believed there was a course of conduct, according to acting District Attorney Brian Kersteter.

Assistant District Attorney Phil Sassaman was the prosecutor while defense attorney Michael C. Morrone, of Williamsport, represented Kemmerer.

Kemmerer is accused of raping a girl who was between the ages of 7 and 8. He was originally charged with three counts each of felony rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age.
