Convicted rapist receives prison time
CATLETTSBURG A Boyd County man was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday following his conviction of first-degree rape.
Kevin Matney, 59, of Catlettsburg, was indicted in June 2022 on the sole count that occurred in April 2019, per previous reports.
Before the commencement of a jury trial, Matney, his attorneys, the prosecution, victim and a third-party judge were able to mediate the case resulting in a guilty plea.
Had Matney opted for a jury trial that resulted in a conviction, he could have faced up to 20 years in prison.
Matney has been in Boyd County Jail since September 2022.
