Contemporary Mexican ensemble brings its ‘intricate harmonies’ to Modesto

The Villalobos Brothers bring contemporary Mexican music to the Gallo Center for the Arts. The Modesto Symphony Orchestra also brings a Beethoven classic as part of its next program at the center. These are just two events among the celebrations, music and more set in the Modesto region May 4-10.

The contemporary Mexican ensemble The Villalobos Brothers is coming to the Gallo Center. “Their original compositions and arrangements masterfully fuse and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music,” according to the theater’s website. The ensemble will be joined in the show by Mariachi Reyna de Los Angeles

Modesto Symphony Orchestra

The Modesto Symphony Orchestra presents Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, led by Music Director Nicholas Hersh. The weekend’s program at the Gallo Center includes Arvo Pärt’s Fratres, Amy Beach’s Peace I Leave With You and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor. The concerts will include the MSO Chorus. Beethoven’s symphony will feature guests soprano Georgiana Adams, mezzo-soprano Kindra Scharich, tenor Alex Boyer and bass Matt Boehler.

Cinco de Mayo parade

South Modesto Businesses United presents its Cinco de Mayo parade and celebration, this year marking the “Day of the Battle of Puebla.” The parade on Crows Landing Road will be followed by a celebration at El Rematito.

Ceres Street Faire

Eagles tribute

Masquerade Gala
