Construction begins on Unidad Park splash pad

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The long-awaited splash pad project at Unidad Park has finally begun construction, All-Tex Irrigation Splash Pads announced Thursday.

The business stated in a media release that work on the project “began this week and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2024.”

“This project marks a significant milestone in our mission to provide inclusive, eco-friendly and engaging recreational spaces for the San Angelo community,” All-Tex Irrigation Splash Pads said.

The construction comes after just under two years of planning within the business and multiple meetings with the City of San Angelo’s City Council discussing the implementation of splash pads in the community. All-Tex Irrigation & Supply LLC said that it started its journey in June 2022 with just an idea before forming a committee in January 2023 to present a proposal to the City Council.

Forging a partnership with the City, All-Tex earned the support of the San Angelo Area Foundation and several other local organizations. Donations would also pour in from businesses and residents alike, boosting the project’s public image and eventually making it a reality.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity of numerous donors, including All-Tex Irrigation’s initial contribution of $100,000, we were able to proceed and acquire the necessary equipment in December 2023 and schedule the installation at Unidad Park by early summer 2024,” All-Tex said.

With construction underway at Unidad Park, All-Tex is already shifting its fundraising efforts toward its second splash pad project at Kirby Park.

“Looking ahead, we are currently focused on raising the funds required to complete the 2nd Splash Pad at Kirby Park,” All-Tex said. “We are excited about the progress we have made so far and remain committed to making a positive impact in our community.”

Once the splash pads are constructed, All-Tex Irrigation Splash Pads’ agreement with the City states that the City will take over maintenance responsibilities for both sites.

“Splash pads are a gift to our community, offered without any obligations,” All-Tex said. “They satisfy the desires of many San Angelo residents, are freely accessible to the public, promote fairness in use, encourage physical activity, drive eco-friendly play initiatives, and contribute to economic stimulation within our community.”
