Condé Union Members Are Demonstrating in Anna Wintour's Neighborhood

After staging a 24-hour walkout back in January to protest bargaining practices and proposed mass layoffs with no resolution, unionized Condé Nast employees are planning a demonstration in Anna Wintour's neighborhood.

The Condé Union — which is made up of staffers across publications including GQ, Vogue, Vanity Fair and more, and is part of the NewsGuild of New York — announced on Thursday it will be passing out flyers in the area surrounding the editor's West Village apartment that "bring attention to their fight for a fair contract against her and other executives at the company," according to a press release. A promotional image shared on Twitter reads: "Anna wears Prada/Workers get nada."

This comes less than two weeks before the 2024 Met Gala (often referred to as "fashion's biggest night"), a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute co-chaired by Wintour and attended by billionaires and celebrities alike.

"While Anna Wintour mingles with fellow millionaires at the Met Gala, Condé Nast is refusing to settle a fair contract and trying to lay off almost 100 Condé Union members," reads the bottom of the image shared on Twitter.

This isn't the first time unionized Condé Nast workers rallied at Wintour's home: Back in June 2021, the union for the New Yorker — which is separate from the Condé Union but is also affiliated with the NewsGuild of New York — staged a protest in front of her Greenwich Village townhouse demanding fair wages and more job security amid negotiations with management. The two parties were able to reach an agreement later that month.
