Concho Valley Live: Mason Arts & Wine, Chamber Music Festival slated for April 6th and 7th

The following is a press release with details about the 11th Annual Spring Mason Arts & Wine Festival:

Make your way to Magical Mason on Saturday, April 6th! Enjoy a walk around Mason Square with local artists and winemakers! From 11 am to 4 pm, a whole host of artists, craft folk, winemakers and non-profit organizations will be lining the sidewalks with their creations and offerings.

What started with barely 15 artists has grown over the years to more than 60 artists and craft folk, local and neighboring wineries, most of which use Mason-grown grapes in their exceptional wines, and our local charitable organizations. In fact, we have outgrown the spaces available on Historic Mason Square! We have added a new section, allowing us to bring even more fun to our event!

Arts include paintings, ceramics, woodworking, photography, fiber arts, jewelry, soaps, salves, candles, African handmade tapestries, bags and much more. Make sure to pop into our local boutiques to see artwork as well!

Enjoy the history of Mason at the Mason Square Museum. Take a drive to see the Llano River and the beauty of our County. Treat yourself to lunch in one of our great eateries. Visit Ft. Mason, the last outpost of Robert E. Lee before the Civil War. Tour the Seaquist House, which received a Texas State Historical Marker in 1974 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1887, it will transport you back in time!

Stay for the 7 pm FREE Gala Performance of Mason’s Chamber Music Festival featuring Austin’s Artisan String Quartet at the Odeon Theater. They will be presenting works by Mendelssohn and Schubert. You’ll even enjoy viewing the newly reconstructed Mason County Courthouse, lost in a devastating fire in 2021!

Below is information about the Mason Chamber Music Festival which is celebrating its 8th season with FREE Performances April 6th and 7th:

The Mason Chamber Music Festival Committee is proud to announce the 8th Season of the Mason’s Chamber Music Festival! The Odeon Gala Event on Saturday, April 6th, will be FREE and feature Artists-in Residence, Austin’s Artisan String Quartet. Sunday’s FREE performance will take place at Mason’s First United Methodist Church at 2 pm, April 7th.

The Artisan String Quartet features Bruce Williams-violist, Patrice Calixte-violinist, Douglas Harvey-cellist and Mariama Alcantara on violin. All of the artists are members of the Austin Symphony.

The Festival’s First Performance will be the 7pm Gala event on Saturday, April 6th, at the Odeon Theater. The Artisan String Quartet returns to the Festival to perform a concert entitled “Melody and Drama.” The Artisan String Quartet presents two great string quartets by composers known for their beautiful melodies and dramatic flair. Franz Schubert’s String Quartet D. 810 “Death and the Maiden” and Felix Mendelssohn’s String Quartet Op. 44, No. 1. Mendelssohn and Schubert were contemporaries during the Romantic era of music in Vienna in the early 19th century, and both composed music that is beloved to this day. Each also died young but still managed to leave a lasting imprint on the history of chamber music with their compositions.

The Festival’s Second Performance will be at the First United Methodist Church, featuring the Artisan String Quartet’s Patrice Calixte on violin and Guest Artist Francesco Barfoed on piano. The performance is entitled “Romani Musicali” and features Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Violin Sonata K. 304, Fritz Kreisler’s Three Pieces, Maurice Ravel’s “Tzigane”, George Enescu’s Violin Sonata No. 3, Op.25 and Antonin Dvorak’s “Songs My Mother Taught Me.” The spirit of the Romani people, who once resided mainly in Central and Eastern Europe, gives this program an exotic and virtuosic flair.

Mason Chamber Music Festival Committee Chairperson Cathy Terrell commented,” This is our Eighth Season, and it will surely be a delight for music lovers! Our Artistic Director, Bruce Williams, has again put his heart

into selecting composers and their works. Our Guest Artist, Francesco Barfoed, allows us to present works that have yet to be experienced in Mason. We are very excited!”
