Columbus Zoo wolverine “Guillotine” dies at 11 years old

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — One of the animals in the Columbus Zoo’s North American region has died at the age of 11.

The Zoo announced that Guillotine, a wolverine that arrived to the Columbus Zoo in 2014 from France, has died after being diagnosed with Addison’s disease. She was diagnosed with the rare adrenal disease a few weeks ago and after multiple treatments, the Zoo said the decision was made to humanely euthanize her. Guillotine’s birth in France marked the first wolverine birth in professional care in the country’s history.

“Gui leaves behind a legacy that will forever resonate within the hearts of those who knew her,” wrote the Zoo in the statement. “Her care team says that Gui’s presence brought joy to all who crossed her path and that her zest for life was infectious, whether she was rolling in wood shavings or indulging in her favorite pastime of crawling down logs in her habitat with unmatched enthusiasm.”
