COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — As Columbus Metropolitan Library prepares for construction of a new building, the Barnett branch will close in early May before moving to a temporary location.

Construction on the new Barnett branch at 3434 E. Livingston Ave. begins with an indoor ceremonial “wallbreaking” at 3 p.m. on May 22. The new branch, which is being built on the same site, will nearly double the current branch’s size to 22,000 square feet and is expected to open in 2025.

The branch will close on May 4 before taking up a temporary residency at 3227 E. Livingston Ave. on May 13. On Mondays through Thursdays, the branch will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Fridays and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Built in 1992, the Barnett branch was formerly known as the Livingston branch before a name change in 2019.

Columbus Metropolitan Library is rebuilding multiple branches, with the new Reynoldsburg branch scheduled to open on Wednesday and the Gahanna branch opening in 2023. A new branch in Linden is under construction.

In November, voters approved a levy that will bring millions in funding for the library system.
