College event helps women find the perfect dress

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local college played matchmaker of sorts for girls and women looking for the perfect dress.

King’s College hosted what’s called Damsel in a Dress on campus.

The inaugural event first aimed to find high school students a dress for prom, but after collecting more than 500 donated dresses, the college expanded its mission.

It also offered wedding gowns and mother-of-the-bride or groom dresses, as well as cocktail, gala, and casual dresses.

The best part is you didn’t have to pay a single cent.

“I think it’s especially helpful with families who might not have the ability to, especially with the rising prices thanks to just general inflation,” said Catarina Medeiros, a King’s College Student from Mountain Top.

“I think it’s important because proms, weddings… they’re so important and to not be able to afford to go is not something I want to see,” said event organizer Jill Elston.

The event also provides shoes and accessories at no cost.

Organizers say they would like to include tuxes next year to help grow the event at King’s.
