All-clear issued after bomb threat on Wichita State campus triggers emergency alert

A bomb threat to Wichita State University was determined not to be credible, the university said in a release shortly before 1 a.m. Friday.

“No devices have been found. The university will now resume normal activities,” the release states.

The all-clear was given roughly three hours after a suspicious call led police to lock down two sites on campus.

“At around 10 p.m. this evening, April 25, 2024, a call was made to Wichita State University Police indicating the presence of a bomb on WSU’s campus at Wallace Hall and the Starbucks on 21st Street,” the university said in a previous release at 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

With the help of officers from the Wichita Police Department, WSU police set up perimeters around both sites and searched them exhaustively, the university said.

A university-wide emergency alert was sent out shortly after the threat was made, and people on campus were asked to stay away from both sites.

“At this time, police suspect the threat is not credible but are taking every precaution to ensure campus safety,” the earlier release stated.

No information has been provided about the caller who contacted university police.
