City orders Hertel Avenue business to cease all operations

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) – The City of Buffalo is shutting down what officials say is an “illegal speakeasy” in North Buffalo.

The business, located at 1783 Hertel Avenue, was issued a cease all operations notification from the Department of Permit and Inspection Services on Saturday.

According to a city spokesperson, the business was operating without a license. Just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, officials say a large crowd was gathered outside the building.

Buffalo Police issued the 44-year-old owner the following ordinances:

  • Drinking and possessing alcohol in public places

  • Employing an unregistered bouncer
