MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Three live oak trees a part of the canopy over Springhill Avenue are set to be removed, according to a release from the City of Mobile.

“The canopy over Springhill Avenue is one of the most naturally beautiful parts of our city, and it is unfortunate that trees in that area will have to be removed,” Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said. “However, our first and highest priority will always be public safety. The visible damage on these trees really tells the story. They pose a significant fall risk, and to leave them standing alongside a major thoroughfare would be irresponsible and dangerous.”

During the removal and pruning process — done by Top Notch Tree Care and overseen by ISA Certified Arborist Billy Allen and the city of Mobile’s Urban Forester — the westbound lanes on Springhill Avenue between Sienna Vista Street and Park Avenue will be closed.

The eastbound lanes of Springhill Avenue will be used for east and westbound traffic while the work is in progress, the release said.
