City Director of Codes Enforcement resigns

Apr. 24—On Tuesday, the Richmond City Board of Commissioners accepted the resignation of Director of Codes Enforcement, Philip Williams, by a vote of 3-1.

That dissenting vote was held by Commissioner Mike Brewer, who said, "I'm going to vote no on this. I feel like in the future, I'll be able to answer some questions that will arise."

Brewer told the Register that more details will be given on the matter after the conclusion of the investigation and following his own conversations with Williams, City Attorney Tyler Frazier, and an independent attorney.

At present, he expressed concern that Williams, who has served in the city 2012, was "forced out."

"But that's part of the investigation that they think is going on, so I have to wait until that's over," he said.

In the meeting, Mayor Robert Blythe expressed that Williams, also one of his former students, came with high regard from the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) through one of their programs.

"We appreciate the service that he has given," Blythe said.

The city will begin a search to fill the role Williams will leave vacant.

The order states that Williams' last day will be May 5.
