City and County of Fresno to improve flow of traffic

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A new jurisdictional arrangement is coming to the City of Fresno to enhance traffic flow and safety, being what city officials describe as a significant step towards streamlined traffic intersection management.

Effective Tuesday, officials say the County of Fresno Board of Supervisors has voted unanimously on the right-of-way (ROW) to the City of Fresno, at and near the intersection of East Tulare Avenue and North Minnewawa Avenue.

Currently, city officials say they control only the southeast corner of the intersection and the county controls the other three corners. With ROW, the City of Fresno can regulate all the traffic through one agency rather than different corners being owned by two agencies.

Officials say achieving uniform traffic control authority can be best accomplished by quitclaiming the current County ROW, located at the northeast, northwest, and southwest corners of the intersection to the city.

The purpose of this collaborative effort is to simplify traffic management and bolster safety measures for the community. Officials say by consolidating control under one jurisdiction, residents can anticipate more efficient traffic flow and enhanced road safety.

The implementation of this new jurisdictional arrangement will commence on Wednesday, April 23. City officials say both parties will work to ensure a smooth transition and minimal disruption to the public.
