City approves annexation zoning for construction of fire station No. 7

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) —Grand Junction Fire Station is building a new fire station in Appleton but needed the city to approve the annexation of the land they purchased into the city limits. The city approved that annexation last week, so now the fire station can begin planning the building process.

The Grand Junction Fire Department chose Shaw Construction to build the station which is projected to be built by the summer of 2025. The fire station will provide quicker response times to the Northwest parts of Grand Junction.

With the new station, GJFD also plans to add staff members to the new station. Grand Junction’s fire chief says that they are recruiting from all over but they would like to be able to pull staff from their local academy in January 2025.

The city has already purchased all the equipment needed for the station, which will arrive when the station is built and ready to go.
