Chins up, glasses on, see how Kansas City area residents watched Monday’s eclipse

Is the fun really staring into the sights of the sun like Bruce Springsteen sang in his ‘70s hit “Blinded by the Light”?

He may have been onto something if you watched the faces of just about anyone across North America ignoring their mothers’ warnings not to stare at the sun to see Monday’s solar eclipse. Chins up, eclipse glasses on, most of the people spotted watching the eclipse seemed to stare in wonder or their mouths were gaping as they took in the wonder of the rare celestial event.

Southeast Missouri was in the path of totality which meant it was a popular destination for eclipse watchers who weren’t settling for seeing the sun only partially blotted out.

The Kansas City area was too far out of the path of totality to see a total eclipse but the moon covered 90% of the sun in the metro which was still enough to thrill those who risked their retinas to see the spectacle.
