Child, teen killed in I-90 crash identified

[Editor’s Note: This story has been updated based on new information from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner.]

CLEVELAND (WJW) — Officials have identified a young boy and a teenage girl killed in a crash on Interstate 90.

The multiple-vehicle accident took place in the westbound lanes shortly after noon on Monday, April 1. The crash shut down the interstate near West 98th Street/West Boulevard for several hours.

Cleveland EMS confirmed to FOX 8 News that both a child and a teen were killed in the crash.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified those killed as Iona McCray, 16, of Cleveland and Da’Shone Whalen, 9, of Cleveland.

According to the medical examiner, both died on the scene of the crash.

It’s not yet clear what caused the crash.
