Child on bicycle hit by alleged drunk driver in Ashland County: OSHP

SULLIVAN TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WJW) — A child was flown to the hospital after investigators say he was hit by an alleged drunk driver while riding his bike in Ashland County Friday afternoon.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:39 p.m. along County Road 681, near Township Road 350 in Sullivan Township.

Investigators say the child, whose name and age haven’t been released, was struck by a Chevy Silverado while riding his bike in the roadway.

The child was flown by helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Bomb threat prompts evacuation of local nursing home

The driver, identified as 55-year-old James Dwayne Taylor, of Ashland, was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Taylor wasn’t injured in the crash.

Additional charges are pending at this time.
