Chicago woman charged after driving wrong way on I-80

A Chicago woman was charged Monday after nearly hitting a cop car head-on, while driving the wrong way on Interstate 80, documents allege.

Guadalupe Hernandez, 47, was charged with criminal recklessness, a Level 6 felony; operating while intoxicated endangering a person, a class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a class B misdemeanor; and operating while intoxicated, a class C misdemeanor.

She has posted a $3,000 cash bond. Her next hearing is May 3.

An Indiana State Trooper wrote he pulled Hernandez’s red Toyota Camry over at 3:09 a.m. Feb. 18 at mile marker 2, just inside the Indiana State Line. She nearly hit a different cop car “head on” driving east in the I-80 westbound lanes. He smelled marijuana.

Her eyes were “glassy” and “bloodshot.”

Hernandez said she was driving to Chicago from Gary and got in the wrong side of the expressway after “arguing with somebody on the phone.”

She denied drinking or using drugs, then later said she had a drink four hours before. They found 1.5 grams of marijuana inside her car.
