Chicago Bears third most improved after the draft

In an NFL.com feature yesterday, Michael Robinson named the Chicago Bears the third most improved team after the 2016 NFL Draft. Chicago was followed by the Buffalo Bills as the second most improved and the Jacksonville Jaguars as the most improved.

This is the latest praise directed towards the Bears in an offseason that has included plenty of positive reviews. Drafting Leonard Floyd and Cody Whitehair addressed team needs without reaching. This is the goal for every pick a given team makes in the draft, and, initially, it looks like the Bears achieved this goal.

This is also the latest praise for Leonard Floyd. It was not long after the Bears drafted Floyd that Todd McShay was doling out respect to the Bears organization for their ability to recognize such a talent. Michael Robinson used Floyd as his only evidence for the Bears improvement. In his words, “the guy can ball”. ROLL THE HIGHLIGHTS!

The Bears have done a lot to improve areas of weakness from a season ago. Lackluster pass rush? Draft Leonard Floyd, sign Danny Trevathan. Inconsistent run defense? Sign Jerrell Freeman. Add these reassurances with your second year head coach, John Fox, who has led his previous two teams to the Super Bowl, and Chicago is, overwhelmingly, trending upward.

Still, Bears fans should be cautiously optimistic. There has been a lot of change, and though it all appears be positive on paper, no one knows how all of these new faces will mesh on Sundays.

This team has potential to be a surprise team this season, but it is more likely that it will take a couple of years before they are perennially competing for NFC North supremacy. GM Ryan Pace and John Fox seem dedicated to forming a young nucleus and building around it, which is a very popular and patient strategy.
