Chesterfield awards contract for start of water project

Apr. 23—CHESTERFIELD — Yarberry Inc. was named the contractor for Phase I of Chesterfield's upcoming water project.

Yarberry was one of three bidders vying for the contract, their bid was for $3,338,000.

Phase I will include lead service line removals. Such a project will result in a water rate increase, Mitchell Eischweiler, a senior manager with Baker Tilly, said during the February town council meeting.

The Phase I rate will be $97.04 for up to 3,000 gallons of usage. It also includes sewer and trash fees. This rate increase is expected to take effect in July.

The rate increase will be approved after two public hearings. Those hearings have yet to be scheduled.

Phase I will make way for Phase II which will involve building a new water plant. Planning for Phase II will not begin until next year.

Both phases were estimated at $12.1 million.

The overall project will be funded via a variety of sources including a State Revolving Fund grant previously estimated at $6 million.
