Chemung County swears in new deputy

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office swore in their new deputy today, Benjamin Howe, of Elmira.

The 23-year-old deputy is a graduate of Elmira High School and spent two years with the Horseheads Police Department before transferring to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. He will be assigned to help out with road patrol.

“I hope to be the best officer I possibly can be and giving back to community is one of my goals,” said Howe. “Hopefully I get to interact with the community a lot and someday, maybe working up the ranks.”

Deputy Howe’s badge was pinned on by his father Dan Howe, a retiree of the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office. He spent more than 25 years in the corrections division as an administrative lieutenant.
