CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WETM) – The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office has provided an update on Chemung County Investigator Michael Theetge after he was seriously injured during a hit and run on March 29.

According to a Facebook post by the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, Investigator Theetge remains in the intensive care unit as critical, but stable. The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office says that over the past few days, Theetge has shown signs of improvement.

“We will remain cautiously optimistic that his recovery will continue to go in that direction,” said the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office.

There have been several community businesses and individuals that have started fundraisers for Investigator Theetge and his family. The Sheriff’s Office is asking that any individual, business, or corporation that wishes to donate to the family do so by contacting the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office directly to arrange the drop off of their donation(s).

How you can help Investigator Theetge and his family

“While we greatly appreciate individuals in the community facilitating many of these fundraising events, it has become increasingly difficult to adequately monitor and control the manner in which they are being collected and turned over to the family,” the Sheriff’s Office explained. “By dropping the donations directly off to the Sheriff’s Office or having a member of our agency pick them up, this will streamline that process for the family.”

The Sheriff’s Office says all donations will be immediately turned over to the Chemung County Deputy Sheriff’s Association that will get them directly to the family.

If you would like to donate, you can contact the Sheriff’s Office at 607-737-2950 (Road Patrol) or 607-737-2987 (Administration).
