Charles 'Yammy Bear' Jackson injured in attack

Charles "Yammy Bear" Jackson

was injured during an assault that occurred Thursday, April 25, 2024, according to court records.

Jackson works overnights at a halfway house, according to a friend, Andre Crockett.

According to court records, on April 25, Rochester Police officers were dispatched to a halfway house in the 2100 block of Campus Drive Southeast in Rochester, answering a report of an assault that happened on the premises.

At the scene, officers found a man being actively treated for a head wound. Jackson was actively bleeding from the head, moaning, and making indiscernible sounds as if he was trying to form words, according to court records.

Crockett confirmed Jackson was the victim in the case.

Several individuals at the scene told officers that the victim was struck on the head with a metal tire pump by a suspect who was a resident at the home.

Due to the seriousness of the injuries, Jackson was unable to provide a statement to officers.

The suspect, later identified as Malik Amin Johnson, was located in a secure room on the scene. In the room was also the tire pump. Johnson admitted to striking Jackson in the head with the tire pump, according to the court document.

Further, an adult male witness reported that Jackson was sitting on a couch when he observed Johnson exit his room, approach Jackson and strike him on the head with the tire pump, according to court documents. The witness reported that Jackson immediately started bleeding from the injury.

Jackson was taken to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Saint Marys for treatment, where he remained on Friday, according to social media posts.

Johnson, 44, of Rochester, was charged with felony assault second-degree-dangerous weapon and misdemeanor fifth-degree-inflict or attempt bodily harm.

Johnson is currently being held in the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.
