Charges filed in Belleville shooting death

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – A Belleville, Illinois, man was charged earlier this week in connection with a fatal shooting this past weekend.

According to a Belleville Police Department spokesperson, officers were sent to a home in the first block of Ben Louis Drive, just south of Highway 161, for a domestic disturbance just after 11 p.m. on April 14.

Officers found a woman and man inside the residence. The woman, identified as Megan Born, 36, had been shot once and was unconscious. Officers and EMS were unable to revive the victim and she was pronounced dead at 3 a.m. on Monday, April 15.

The man, identified as Demario Bush, 35, was taken into custody.

On Tuesday, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office charged Bush with one count of murder/intent to kill and one count of being a felon in possession/use of a firearm while on parole. Bush will be transferred to St. Clair County Jail.
