Charged: Statesville, Charlotte men had converted machine guns: DOJ

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Two local men are facing charges for having machine guns, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina announced.

Statesville resident Trevaris Kennedy, 21, was arrested on Monday and is charged with machine gun possession as a felon. Court records stated that shortly before Christmas of last year, Kennedy had two Glocks and a machine gun as a convicted felon.

In a separate case, court records stated that in July of 2023, 21-year-old Charlotte resident Tiquavion Ervin was found with a ghost gun with measures that made it into a machine gun.

The weapons contained conversion kits including Glock switches that turn a semiautomatic gun into a fully automatic. The conversion and classification is known as a machine gun, the DA’s office said.
