Your Character Matters: Visalia student masters kindness

VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Josiah Diaz is like any other fifth grader at Pinkham Elementary School in Visalia: he’s working hard to correctly solve math problems in class. But when it comes to kindness and caring for others, he’s got it mastered.

Josiah is being singled out for his great character. His school counselor noticed it right away.

“What impressed me about him was his empathy. When he was talking about things he was seeing or other students and his level of caring was further beyond other students just entering fifth grade,” said counselor Jennifer Kirkman.

Josiah says he learned about kindness from his family.

“My parents, they’re very nice to everybody that they meet,” Josiah said.

Josiah works hard to be kind to everyone, especially those who may need a friend.

“And if you give them the attention that they need, then they’ll be happy at home, at school, anywhere that they need to be,” he said.

He’s a fifth grader who is wise and kind beyond his years.

Congratulations to Josiah Diaz of Pinkham Elementary School in Visalia.
