The proposed legislation would allow for workers’ compensation claimants “to request payment of benefits by direct deposit or employers to require payment of benefits by direct deposit.”

State Senators Tracy Pennycuick (R-Berks/Montgomery) and Frank Farry (R-Bucks) say they will introduce the legislation. Currently, the lawmakers say workers’ compensation payments are still being made by paper check, leading to potential delays, loss, or displacement.

The bill would also allow insurers to no longer offer paper checks as long as claimants have the option to receive their benefits through direct deposit or a payroll account card.

The lawmakers say the reforms were unanimously recommended by the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council.

“Please join us in helping injured workers get their benefits in a faster, more convenient way that will also benefit insurers by reducing processing time and mailing costs,” said the lawmakers.
