Changes coming to long-time Hersheypark attraction

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) — Hersheypark just had its spring opening on March 29, and parkgoers noticed some changes happening to the long-time Hersheypark Amphitheater.

Over the weekend, parkgoers reported seeing signage posted around the amphitheater inside the park near The Great Bear. Currently, the seating and the overhead covering of the theatre have been demolished.

The only thing that remains right now is the stage itself.

According to a Facebook post by the American Amusement Park Museum, the signage posted around the fenced-in theatre says:

“Construction is in full swing,” followed by a second sign that reads “Don’t mind us, we’re twisting something up.”

abc27 news reached out to Hersheypark for more information regarding this demolition and was told there are “No additional details to share at this point beyond the construction signage already posted in the park.”

According to HersheyPA.com, the amphitheater opened in 1973 in the same location as the original amphitheater built in the early 1900s. The amphitheater has hosted shows including Allan Alberts’ TV Showcase, the Hersheypark Revue, and several musical performances.

The amphitheater also hosted the Creature Chaos Haunted House during Dark Nights.

Hersheypark has undergone many noticeable changes before its official 118th operating season.

abc27 news previously reported on Hersheypark’s new roller coaster train cars for The Comet, which is their oldest roller coaster in the park. Hersheypark also recently revamped the seats and restraints for the Skyrush ride as well.
