Chanel confirmed what we long suspected this morning - plastic is a big deal for summer 2018. From Calvin Klein to Burberry, the sheer material will be keeping us dry (and overly warm) next season.

Today's Chanel show compounded the trend, as breakout star Kaia Gerber opened wearing a pair of thigh-high plastic boots with a transparent block heel. Karl Lagerfeld sent each of his models out in similar styles, some of which reached the knee, others of which were calf-length.

There is a practical edge to plastic shoes - they will, at the very least, prove useful during spring/summer 2018 showers. However, anything transparent usually requires maintenance - while Chanel's boots cover part of the foot enabling you to get away with less than perfectly groomed toes, the rest of your foot will need to look freshly pedicured. Kim Kardashian and Kendall Jenner are both fans of transparent boots.

Wrapping your legs in plastic will also serve as a portable greenhouse, which on one hand is positive - you'll be able to scrap the tights even earlier than usual. Just don't forget the talcum baby powder - a steamed-up summer boot just isn't the ticket.
