Chamber president meets with Installation Resiliency panel at nation's Capital
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Barbara Rivera-Holmes, the president and CEO of the Albany Chamber of Commerce, sat on the Installation Resiliency panel, representing the community connection necessary for an installation to thrive during #ModernDayMarine in Washington, D.C., recently.
The panel was part of the chamber's and other local officials', including representatives of MCLB-Albany, participation in the annual Washington Fly-In, during which the local delegation met with civilian and military leaders in the nation's capital to talk about issues specific to southwest Georgia.
"For installations, the community is the platform from which you project your power," Holmes told the panel. "Until you believe that — until your community believes that — you won't reach your goals. This is the model Albany has set for other installations across the Marine Corps, and possibly the Department of Defense."
Holmes highlighted the vital role of trust and communication between the community and the installation.
The chamber president participated on the panel alongside James Balocki, executive director, Marine Corps Installations Command; RADM Dean Vanderlay, commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command; Col. Jeff Hammond, deputy commander, Marine Corps Installations Pacific; and Brig. Gen. Jason Woodworth, Commanding General, Marine Corps Installations.
