CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Graduation and Mother’s Day made up the perfect recipe for restaurant crowds in Champaign this weekend.

People headed to their favorite spots to celebrate on Sunday. It led to some huge crowds at places all over town.

Neil Street Blues is one of those places where people were waiting outside the doors to spend time with friends and family. Manager Michael Starks said their busiest day of the year was helped even more by the weather.

“I definitely think that the weather plays a big part in everyone’s mood today as well,” he said. “We’re blessed with a beautiful day. So, what other things would you want? You know, come out, get some good food, have a beautiful day on a Mother’s Day, celebrate the graduates all at one time. It’s a great day all around — not just for us, but for everyone.”

Starks said this time of year is even busier than the holidays for his restaurant. He said after going through the pandemic, it’s refreshing to see the bigger crowds come back.
